Abstract

This study analyzes the vulnerability of global supply chains to external shocks, such as a global pandemic, and proposes blockchain as a tool for building resilient, flexible logistics networks. During the pandemic, systemic failures were often due to poor data visibility, reliance on centralized, single-source procurement, and slow, manual reconciliation processes. The research examines how blockchain can provide real-time tracking of critical supplies, from medical PPE to pharmaceutical ingredients, ensuring a transparent view of the entire network. By utilizing smart contracts, businesses can trigger automated procurement, reroute logistics based on real-time data, and verify the quality of goods upon arrival without physical contact. The findings indicate that blockchain-enabled supply chains are not just more efficient; they are fundamentally more adaptable to crises. The paper concludes that organizations that invest in decentralized infrastructure are better positioned to weather disruption. However, the study warns that the full benefit is only realized when the entire supply chain—including suppliers, logistics providers, and distributors—is integrated into a shared, data-transparent blockchain network.
