## Abstract

This Systematization of Knowledge (SoK) provides a rigorous academic foundation for understanding the burgeoning Decentralized Finance (DeFi) ecosystem. The authors categorize DeFi protocols based on their functional architecture, distinguishing between decentralized exchanges, lending platforms, derivatives, and stablecoins. By analyzing the structural components of these systems—such as automated market makers, collateralized debt positions, and liquidity pools—the paper establishes a taxonomy that clarifies the composition of the DeFi stack. The study highlights the inherent trade-offs between decentralization, capital efficiency, and user experience, while critically examining the systemic risks introduced by composability, such as contagion risk and oracle failure.
