Abstract

This foundational document, presented at a 2017 summit, introduces the concept of ‘Asset Chains’—a specialized blockchain framework designed to manage the lifecycle of real-world assets. It defines asset chains as digital representations of physical or financial instruments that reside on an immutable, verifiable ledger. The research explores the advantages of tokenizing assets to increase liquidity, improve transparency, and allow for fractional ownership in previously illiquid markets like real estate, art, and commodities. The paper details the mechanism of digital twins, where physical property is anchored to the ledger through cryptographic proof, and explains how this facilitates automated audit trails and real-time reconciliation. The findings illustrate a shift from centralized, siloed property registries to a unified, shared infrastructure.
