Generalised DePIN Protocol: A Framework for Decentralised Physical Infrastructure Networks
This preprint introduces a generalized framework for DePIN, aiming to move beyond project-specific implementations toward a unified architectural standard. TheAbstract
This preprint introduces a generalized framework for DePIN, aiming to move beyond project-specific implementations toward a unified architectural standard. The authors propose a modular protocol design that decouples the hardware interface from the settlement and incentive layers. By standardizing the communication between physical sensors and decentralized ledgers, the framework seeks to reduce the development overhead for new network entrants. The methodology involves defining universal primitives for verification, proof-of-work (as related to physical infrastructure), and dispute resolution. The results demonstrate that a generalized approach enhances interoperability and allows for shared security models across heterogeneous physical networks, such as connectivity, energy, and storage providers. The significance of this work lies in its potential to foster an ecosystem where infrastructure resources can be composed and monetized through common primitives rather than isolated silos, ultimately increasing the agility of the decentralized infrastructure sector. - Generalized protocols can reduce the barrier to entry for new decentralized infrastructure projects.
- Modular decoupling of hardware and settlement layers increases system resilience.
- Standardization of verification primitives is essential for cross-network interoperability.
- Shared security models improve the feasibility of smaller, domain-specific DePINs.
