Abstract

This analysis investigates the utility of blockchain technology in enhancing the efficiency and transparency of charitable giving during crises, specifically during the COVID-19 pandemic. Traditional philanthropic structures often suffer from high transaction costs, lack of transparency, and difficulty in cross-border capital flow. The research examines how DLT can streamline donor-to-recipient paths through smart contracts and tokenized assets, ensuring funds are used for their intended purpose. By providing a tamper-proof record of donations and expenditures, blockchain technology can significantly reduce fraud and mismanagement. The report evaluates various case studies where crypto-assets were used to provide direct aid to affected populations, bypassing traditional banking bottlenecks. It further discusses the challenges of wallet accessibility, digital literacy, and the regulatory status of non-profit entities interacting with crypto-markets. The findings suggest that while blockchain offers a transformative mechanism for social impact, its adoption depends heavily on user-friendly interface designs and stable on-ramps to digital currency systems, ultimately highlighting the potential for decentralized finance to improve global humanitarian aid delivery.
