Abstract

Chainlink 2.0 expands upon the original oracle architecture by introducing Hybrid Smart Contracts, which combine on-chain logic with off-chain computation. This paper outlines how decentralized oracle networks can transcend simple data reporting to perform heavy computation, privacy-preserving tasks, and cross-chain messaging. The introduction of Off-Chain Reporting (OCR) is a critical technical advancement that allows nodes to aggregate data off-chain before submitting a single transaction to the blockchain, drastically reducing costs and network congestion. Furthermore, the 2.0 framework describes the integration of Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) and zero-knowledge proofs to enhance security and provide verifiable, private computation for sensitive data. By enabling decentralized oracle networks to act as full-featured middleware layers, Chainlink 2.0 provides the infrastructure for complex enterprise-grade applications. This paper marks the evolution of oracles from simple data bridges to comprehensive off-chain computing platforms capable of supporting advanced decentralized ecosystems.
