Abstract

This paper evaluates the role of blockchain technology in enhancing the global response to pandemics. It highlights how decentralized ledgers can support real-time disease tracking, secure medical supply chains, and verify health-related data without sacrificing individual privacy. The authors discuss how blockchain-enabled platforms facilitate the transparent distribution of aid and help coordinate international cooperation during crises. By creating a ‘single source of truth’ for logistics and supply data, blockchain can prevent counterfeit drugs, track medical device usage, and ensure the integrity of diagnostic results. The paper also investigates the potential for contact tracing apps that utilize decentralized architectures to ensure that sensitive health information is not held by centralized authorities. It concludes that the integration of blockchain into public health infrastructure is vital for building robust, agile, and transparent systems capable of responding to future health threats efficiently.
