This paper explores the transformative potential of blockchain technology within the energy sector, specifically the Oil & Gas industry. It examines how distributed ledgers can optimize complex supply chains, enhance the transparency of joint venture accounting, and secure the certification of carbon emissions. The authors describe the challenges of working in an industry characterized by high data volume, international logistics, and strict environmental compliance. The paper details how blockchain can provide an immutable audit trail for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting, ensuring that energy producers can accurately verify their impact. It also discusses the use of smart contracts in streamlining royalty payments and contractual agreements between partners, reducing the administrative costs and disputes that often plague the sector.
