Abstract

This paper provides an authoritative analysis of decentralized identity (DID) systems and their transformative potential. It explores the current flaws in centralized identity management, such as data vulnerabilities, lack of user control, and the difficulty of verifying identity across disparate online platforms. The authors detail how blockchain-based identity frameworks allow individuals to own their digital ‘persona’ and share selective information without relying on third-party service providers. The research covers topics such as Verifiable Credentials, the role of zero-knowledge proofs in maintaining privacy, and the technical standards required for global interoperability. By enabling self-sovereign identity, these systems could significantly enhance online security, reduce identity theft, and provide an inclusive way for individuals to access financial and governmental services globally.
