Abstract

This research provides an in-depth case study on the application of blockchain technology to enhance food safety and traceability. The authors explore the logistical challenges of monitoring perishable goods across multiple jurisdictions, highlighting the role of blockchain in reducing food fraud and shortening recall response times. By deploying a decentralized application, the study assesses the feasibility of end-to-end tracking from producer to consumer. The research highlights the critical importance of IoT integration, where sensor data is anchored to the blockchain to verify storage conditions and chain-of-custody. The study concludes that while blockchain provides an excellent framework for data integrity, the physical-digital link remains a vulnerable point (the ‘oracle problem’).
