Abstract

This paper provides a broad overview of the role of distributed ledger technologies (DLT) in addressing the security and privacy concerns inherent in IoT deployments. The author evaluates the current threat landscape, focusing on attacks directed at IoT controllers and endpoints. The paper posits that traditional security frameworks, which often rely on central cloud servers, are insufficient for modern hyper-connected environments. By introducing blockchain as a decentralized layer, the study explains how DLT can facilitate authentication, device authorization, and secure peer-to-peer communication. It concludes with a critical assessment of the deployment challenges, including standard-setting, scalability, and the integration of heterogeneous devices into a single blockchain network.
