Abstract

The Aragon whitepaper, published in 2017, introduces a framework for creating and managing decentralized organizations (DAOs) on the Ethereum blockchain. It posits that existing organizational structures are often inefficient, opaque, and susceptible to censorship, and proposes Aragon as a solution to empower communities with self-governance and transparent operations. The core of Aragon is a set of smart contracts that enable the creation of autonomous entities with their own rules, tokens, and decision-making processes. It aims to provide tools for managing membership, voting, and treasury allocation in a decentralized manner, thereby facilitating new forms of collective action and resource management. By abstracting away much of the complexity of smart contract development, Aragon seeks to make it accessible for anyone to launch and govern a DAO, revolutionizing how human organizations can be structured and operated. Key findings

  • Aragon provides a foundational framework for creating and managing Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs).
  • The platform aims to offer transparent, censorship-resistant, and efficient tools for organizational governance.
  • Smart contracts are utilized to manage membership, voting, and treasury functions for DAOs.
  • Aragon seeks to democratize the creation and operation of organizations through blockchain technology.
