Abstract

This whitepaper outlines the architecture and mission of AKASHA, an early initiative exploring the intersection of social networking and blockchain technology. The paper critiques the current social media paradigm, which is characterized by data silos, centralized content moderation, and the commodification of user attention by platform owners. By utilizing the Ethereum blockchain and the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), the project proposes a decentralized social network where content is immutable, uncensorable, and owned by the creator. The research details the challenges of storing large amounts of social data on-chain and proposes a hybrid approach that utilizes decentralized storage protocols to ensure both persistence and scalability. The document explores mechanisms for tokenized incentives, enabling users to reward valuable content directly, thus shifting the economic model away from invasive advertising. The analysis offers a conceptual framework for how decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) could govern such platforms, ultimately presenting a vision for a more equitable digital public square where social interactions are mediated by protocols rather than corporate policy.
