Abstract

This survey provides an analytical review of trust management frameworks in the Internet of Things (IoT) that utilize blockchain technology to establish secure device interaction. As IoT devices increasingly handle sensitive data, the need for trust models that go beyond traditional authentication is paramount. The authors explore how blockchain can replace centralized reputation systems with decentralized, transparent, and verifiable trust metrics. The paper categorizes trust management into identity-based, reputation-based, and policy-based mechanisms, providing a clear map of how each benefits from DLT integration. By assessing the scalability and efficiency of these models, the study highlights how smart contracts can automate trust-based decision-making. The survey also critically evaluates the current state of privacy-preserving technologies within these trust frameworks, such as zero-knowledge proofs.
