Abstract

This paper summarizes a 2020 roundtable event focusing on how blockchain technology could be utilized to address the challenges posed by the global pandemic. It discusses the critical role of secure, real-time data sharing in public health monitoring, supply chain resilience for essential medical goods, and the digitizing of governmental support systems. The experts assess how blockchain-based systems could provide a tamper-proof record of health data, facilitate contact tracing while maintaining privacy, and secure the distribution of aid to the most vulnerable. The paper also touches upon the impact of the pandemic on the acceleration of digital transformation in both public and private sectors. It concludes that the pandemic served as a stress test for existing centralized systems, highlighting the inherent advantages of decentralized, resilient, and transparent architectures in times of crisis, providing a roadmap for future disaster preparedness and economic stabilization efforts.
