How it works

When a transaction is constructed, the protocol includes the Chain ID in the signing hash. Nodes that receive the transaction check the signature against their own configured Chain ID. If the numbers do not match, the transaction is rejected as invalid, protecting the user’s assets from being processed on the wrong chain.

Real-world example

Ethereum Mainnet has a Chain ID of 1, while Polygon uses 137 and Arbitrum One uses 42161.
