How it works

An API defines specific endpoints that correspond to different functions, such as fetching an account balance or submitting a transaction. A client sends a request, typically via HTTP/JSON-RPC, to an API gateway. The gateway validates the request, fetches the required data from the blockchain node, and returns the response in a structured format like JSON.

Real-world example

The Alchemy or Infura API suites, which provide developers with robust gateways to query Ethereum data without running a full node.
